Teradata Names Commitment to Caring Award Winners

Community volunteers’ efforts earn grants for their organizations

ATLANTA (January 25, 2012) –  Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the world’s leading analytic data solutions company, has named three individual associates, one team, and one office as 2011 Teradata Cares Celebration of Caring recipients for exemplary dedication to volunteer service. To honor these winners, Teradata will issue financial grants to the non-profit organizations where they have volunteered, and each winner will receive a crystal award. Entrants were nominated by their peers and winners were selected by a panel of Teradata associates who reviewed anonymous detailed submissions.

In 2011, the three individual Employee of the Year volunteers organized fund-raising events involving more than 700 volunteers to support humanitarian efforts around the world, touched the lives of families displaced by wildfires in Texas and those in an impoverished village in Africa, and provided education to underprivileged children in India. The Team of the Year raised more than $14,600 in support of several charities, collected donations of food and school supplies, and adopted underprivileged families for the holidays. The Office of the Year raised more than $10,000 and volunteered close to 1000 hours in more than 40 service projects for a variety of local charities.

This year’s winners, selected from Teradata’s 8,000 employees worldwide, are:

  • 2011 Americas Teradata Cares Employee of the Year – Darla Marburger of Reston, VA, initiated and led the Rise from the Ashes Drive charitable event for persons displaced by wildfires that destroyed 1,500 homes in Bastrop County, Texas. She coordinated the efforts of 30 volunteers who collected household goods. She also collected donated items and traveled to a small village in South Africa, where 60 percent of the population is impoverished.
  • 2011 Asia-Pacific Teradata Cares Employee of the Year – Srikanth Voorakaranam of Hyderabad, India, has volunteered an average of 300 hours per year with Asha for Education since 1996. He has worked with volunteer teams, mentored new volunteers, organized fundraising and awareness events, and conducted site visits to interact with underprivileged children and their teachers. He has also created presentations and other materials for Asha for Education represented the organization in corporate giving forums organized by other companies.
  • 2011 EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) Teradata Cares Employee of the Year – Michael Leuenberger of Duesseldorf, Germany is founder and chair of Global Biking Initiative. This charity collects funds for different humanitarian charities in 18 countries worldwide. As chair, Michael has organized an annual international, one week long, cycling event in Europe with hundreds of participants from 20 countries. In 2011, he volunteered more than 300 hours for this project. Through his efforts, 700 people have raised more than €750 million ($976.2 million) for humanitarian projects worldwide.
  • 2011 Teradata Cares Team of the Year – Aprimo TASC (Team Aprimo Serving Communities). Purchased by Teradata in 2011, Aprimo, is a leading global provider of marketing software and services that enhance the productivity and performance of marketing organizations.) Aprimo TASC is a global team that sponsors events, primarily in Indianapolis, IN and Raleigh, NC, for various charitable organizations. In 2011, TASC raised more than $14,600 for a variety of charities such as a Women’s shelter, Special Olympics, American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Foundation, U.S. Armed Forces, and the Lymphoma Society. The team also raised money and collected donations of school supplies and food, and provided food and gifts to underprivileged families for the holidays. 
  • 2011 Teradata Cares Office of the Year – Dayton, OH – At Teradata’s Dayton office, employees have volunteered close to 1000 hours on more than 40 service projects to a variety of charities in 2011. Their fundraising efforts totaled more than $10,000 for survivors of the tsunami in Japan, cancer research, Special Olympics, and for an area charity consortium. In addition, Dayton office employees were vital contributors to the regional blood and tissue center, blood drives and fundraising events for cancer research. Their impact was spread across the community through financial and personnel support for organizations ranging from animal shelters, nursing homes, and an area nature arboretum, to track and field events for disabled youth, food kitchens and science fairs. The Dayton office holds an Annual Because We Care Fair, showcasing local charities and giving employees the chance to find out more about the organizations and to volunteer as a charity champion.
