SAS Focuses on Business Intelligence Innovation, Not Integrating Acquired Software, Says Analyst Report

CARY, N.C. (October 22, 2010) – SAS, the leader in business analytics, was named a leader in the Forrester Wave(TM): Enterprise Business Intelligence Platforms, Q4 2010 report that examined the integrated business intelligence and advanced analytics market.

SAS has expanded organically with far fewer acquisitions than competitors, the report observes. The benefits for SAS, now a $2.3 billion global company, are clear. Per the Forrester Inc. report, “Its BI products are more seamlessly integrated and SAS can enjoy the freedom of almost fully concentrating on innovation rather than integration.”

“At SAS, our priority is delivering technologies our customers need, and doing that in the most innovative way possible,” said Jim Davis, SAS Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “We don’t confuse innovation with buying market share. In the last several years, that has set us apart from our competitors.”

“SAS also leads the market in the area of embedded analytics, where advanced analytics are embedded and executed right in DBMS engines, leveraging their processing power and scalability, and eliminating the need to move data between analytical and relational data stores,” according to the report.

Valence Health, a 15-year-old service organization to provider-sponsored HMOs and IPAs, relies on SAS® reporting and analytics for optimizing its business. “We have moved our patient service from ‘only-look-backwards-at-what-has-happened’ to a proactive system with alerts that contribute to a healthier patient population. SAS enabled us to make a fundamental shift in the way we do business,” said Todd Stockard, Valence co-founder and Senior Vice President for Financial and Data Management Services.

SAS customers agree that the independent software provider offers a unique portfolio for improved decision making. As enterprises face increased regulations and heightened global competition, proactive, evidence-based decisions and agile strategies are more important than ever.
