MicroStrategy® Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence (BI) software, today honored three organizations for achieving outstanding business performance with their MicroStrategy-based business intelligence applications. The “Best Practices in Business Intelligence” award winners for 2008 are GEICO, the U.S. Postal Service, and Corporate Express US. The awards were announced at MicroStrategy’s annual user conference, MicroStrategy World 2008, in Miami, Florida.

By deploying MicroStrategy for their BI applications, these organizations are sharing information across their enterprises to increase revenue, enhance efficiency and productivity, and strengthen customer relationships. “We congratulate these organizations for their exceptional use of business intelligence,” said MicroStrategy COO Sanju Bansal. “GEICO, the U.S. Postal Service, and Corporate Express each have demonstrated remarkable results in improved efficiency and customer service as a result of their BI applications. We are delighted to recognize their accomplishments by presenting them with the MicroStrategy Best Practices in Business Intelligence Award.”

Following is a brief description of this year’s winners and their business intelligence applications:

GEICO: GEICO is the winner in the Data Scalability category. A leading auto insurer, GEICO uses MicroStrategy to analyze over 20 terabytes of customer and sales data to monitor and improve GEICO’s corporate performance and enhance insight into customer behavioral patterns. GEICO’s MicroStrategy applications have more than 1,500 users who execute over 2,000 analytical reports daily. With MicroStrategy’s dashboards and one-click analysis, GEICO personnel can seamlessly gain greater insight into sales activity to enhance customer relationships and generate sales growth. GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is the fourth-largest private passenger auto insurer in the United States. It provides auto insurance coverage for more than 8 million policyholders and insures more than 13 million vehicles.

U.S. Postal Service: The U.S. Postal Service is the winner in the User Scalability category. Approximately 30,000 managers in every major functional group at the U.S. Postal Service rely on MicroStrategy to improve operations, detect fraud, and increase efficiencies in mail service. The user community includes financial and account analysts, service delivery analysts, budget coordinators, retail managers, and local postmasters across the U.S. Postal Service. The U.S. Postal Service runs over 140,000 reports weekly to monitor and analyze financial performance, on-time delivery performance, network efficiency, in-plant operations, and retail outlet performance. The U.S. Postal Service has a 60-terabyte Teradata data warehouse. An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.

Corporate Express US: Corporate Express US, a wholly owned subsidiary of Corporate Express NV, is the winner in the Extranet Deployment category. Corporate Express customers use a MicroStrategy-powered extranet to run reports and analyze data related to their office supply purchases.
