Simplified Report Creation for Power Users

McLean, Va., (March 09, 2006) –

MicroStrategy® Incorporated (NASDAQ: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of business intelligence software, today announced that it has extended its reporting capabilities with the addition of a new graphical Query Builder interface for ad-hoc queries. This enhancement is part of the latest release of MicroStrategy 8, which became generally available on February 10, 2006.

Query Builder enables power users to query directly against operational data stores without hand coding SQL. The graphical Query Builder interface makes it easy to select tables and columns and define joins visually. Power users with knowledge of the data model have vast flexibility to ask almost any type of business question with Query Builder.

With the addition of Query Builder, MicroStrategy now offers a full continuum of reporting and ad-hoc query capabilities for all types of users. For power users, Query Builder simplifies ad-hoc queries by using familiar query-by-example techniques. For developers, the free-form SQL capabilities introduced with the first release of MicroStrategy 8 allow for custom-defined SQL statements and stored procedures in ad-hoc reporting. For business analysts, MicroStrategy offers simple drag-n-drop ad-hoc query capabilities and a Report Builder wizard for prompt-driven query construction. Report consumers can run a full range of reports using pre-defined report templates and prompted filters to select the information they need, within defined parameters.

“The new Query Builder expands upon MicroStrategy’s ability to access operational data sources and allows developers to create custom SQL in a point-and-click fashion,” said Cindi Howson, President of ASK and author of BIScorecard product reviews. “With this latest improvement, MicroStrategy offers both flexibility for rapid report creation and prototyping as well as a highly modeled environment for enterprise reporting and analysis.”

“While the first release of MicroStrategy 8 focused on improvements to the business user experience with an enhanced, easy-to-use Web interface for reporting and analysis, the latest release delivers exciting new functionality to the power user,” said MicroStrategy COO Sanju Bansal.
