Sun Microsystems and Java technology creator James Gosling name the JasperReports Community Edition project among Coolest products in the World for Java Technology

JAVAONE WORLDWIDE DEVELOPER CONFERENCE, SAN FRANCISCO (May 08, 2007) –

JasperSoft Corporation, the market leader in open source business intelligence (BI), today announced the company was named a prestigious Duke’s Choice Award winner by Sun Microsystems Fellow James Gosling. The award recognized JasperReports, the world’s most widely used open source reporting engine with more than two million downloads and more than 20,000 deployments in 81 countries. James Gosling, presented the award to Teodor Danciu, founder and lead architect of JasperReports, and Barry Klawans, chief technology officer of JasperSoft, during the Duke’s Choice Awards Ceremony at the JavaOne conference this evening.

The Duke’s Choice Awards celebrates the best and most innovative technology-based applications and services in the business from among all the cool projects in the world of Java technology. JasperReports is an open source, Java-based reporting technology used to generate dynamic content for business intelligence in Web and desktop applications. It delivers print-quality content to the screen, printer or into PDF, HTML, XLS, CSV, or XML files.

“Every year at JavaOne, we recognize the most creative Java developers with a Duke’s Choice Award,” said Jean Elliott, Senior Director of Java Software Product Marketing at Sun Microsystems, Inc. “After judging a variety of innovative Java software projects from dedicated developers around the globe, we are naming open source JasperReports as one of the most exceptional open source Java software applications in the world because of its full feature set, fast performance, and clean architecture.”

Recognizing the best-of-the-best in the world of Java technology development, Duke’s Choice award winners receive a statue of “Duke,” the Java technology mascot and recognition from Gosling.

“It is a great honor to receive this recognition from Sun. JasperReports is the first open source BI technology ever to win a Duke’s Choice award. In just six years, JasperReports has become the world’s most popular Java software-based reporting technology thanks in large part to its clean, simple, flexible Java software architecture,” said Danciu. “We thank everyone in the JasperSoft community for their support and contributions.”

Leading CRM, ERP, and database partners such as SugarCRM, Salesforce.com, and MySQL embed the JasperReports technology to optimize their applications for business-critical reporting and analysis capabilities. Organizations of all sizes, including Sunterra, University of Nebraska, and Michigan Miller’s Insurance, use it on a stand-alone basis to better leverage their business data.

JasperSoft’s award-winning JasperReports technology is being showcased at the JavaOne conference at the Java Playground in the JavaOne Pavilion. JasperReports is the foundation for the JasperSoft Business Intelligence Suite, a comprehensive family of BI products providing robust production reporting, interactive reporting, data analysis, and data integration capabilities. Other products in the JasperSoft Business Intelligence Suite include JasperServer, JasperAnalysis, iReport, and JasperETL. The suite is available in both open source and professional editions.
