With Jaspersoft Studio, developers can build, share, and manage reports for free in the most popular Java development environment

SAN FRANCISCO (July 13, 2011) – Jaspersoft, maker of the world’s most widely used business intelligence (BI) software, today released Jaspersoft Studio, the most complete open source BI design environment for Eclipse. Bringing new BI capabilities to Eclipse Java developers, Jaspersoft Studio provides a complete open source platform that allows Eclipse Java developers to build, secure, and share BI reports for free.

Eclipse represents one the largest and most important Java communities touting an average of one million downloads per month. Jaspersoft serves the largest open source BI community with over 225,000 registered members. With Jaspersoft Studio, two significant developer communities are brought together to bring greater adoption of open source BI to the masses. Jaspersoft provides Eclipse developers with more BI capabilities when compared with the reporting tools currently available for Eclipse.

Specifically, Jaspersoft Studio surpasses the current reporting tool capabilities available to the Eclipse community, allowing developers to build reports in Jaspersoft Studio and share them among teams or with their organization using the open source JasperReports Server project. Jaspersoft Studio delivers a true open source platform for report building, sharing, and managing without requiring developers to purchase commercial software. Users can design and distribute reports accessing any data source including relational databases, “big data” and NoSQL databases, or flat files.

Guilio Toffoli, Founder and Lead Architect of iReport at Jaspersoft said, “With the provided Eclipse reporting tools, developers can get started with report design fairly quickly, but the runway of what they can do is short. Jaspersoft Studio is designed to create a richer BI experience for the Eclipse community. Now, when a developer wants to deploy or secure a BI report, they can do it with our server without requiring a costly commercial license.”

Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation, said “The Eclipse community gets stronger with each new member who contributes innovative and functional software. Jaspersoft is a top open source company and we’re excited to welcome them into the Eclipse Community. We look forward to new tools and the expertise they can add in the business intelligence arena.”

In addition to making Jaspersoft available to Eclipse developers, the company also announced it has become an official member of the Eclipse Foundation. By joining this community, Jaspersoft has extended its open software development arm and ability to build open source applications and products.

Brian Gentile, CEO at Jaspersoft said, “Jaspersoft is committed to making all developers successful with its powerful, proven, open source software. Combining the strengths of Jaspersoft and Eclipse yields new advantages for open source business intelligence, ultimately giving a broader set of customers the tools needed to improve decision-making.”

Jaspersoft Studio is currently available for download from JasperForge.org.
