Jaspersoft and HandySoft Integrate Business Process Management and Business Intelligence for Nuclear Regulatory Commission Federal agency rolls out joint solution to 4,000 users and saves more than $1.5 million a year

SAN FRANCISCSO and Falls Church, Va (December 08, 2009) –

Jaspersoft, the world’s most widely used business intelligence software, and HandySoft Global Corp., a leading provider of Business Process Management (BPM) software and solutions, today announced that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is the first public customer using BizFlow® Advanced Reporting and is using it to increase operational efficiency and organizational effectiveness.

BizFlow is a web-based business process management suite (BPMS) that uses Jaspersoft’s JasperServer to provide process-driven reporting for government agencies and other joint commercial customers. Jaspersoft was chosen as the reporting partner over Crystal Reports and Cognos due to its ease of use and integration abilities.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), which regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials, is saving 75 people hours a day and more than $1.5 million a year with BizFlow BPM and BizFlow Advanced Reporting. The federal agency’s deployment of integrated BPM and Business Intelligence (BI) was recently recognized by Gartner with the research firm’s Inaugural Business Process Management Excellence Award (http://www.handysoft.com/pressreleases/view/135).[1

More details on the NRC deployment are captured in a new case study published today, which can be accessed at http://jaspersoft.com/test-drive-nrc-case-study.

“Jaspersoft and HandySoft provide us with a fully integrated COTS suite, which has allowed us to customize our solution to meet our unique requirements in addressing a massive volume of time-sensitive correspondence and action items requiring a wide range of responses,” said James Schaeffer, Deputy Director, Office of Information Services, Nuclear Regulatory Commission. “The software is simple, scalable and includes all of the major enterprise features needed to track correspondence and action items in a consistent and comprehensive manner using one system while providing greater visibility for managers throughout the agency of the status of these action items.”

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the NRC was deluged with correspondence and requests with regards to the country’s nuclear sites. In order to address a new security reality and the high volume that resulted, the agency began the process of consolidating 35 tracking and reporting systems into just one. Today, the NRC can address inquiries in 1-2 days instead of weeks or months.

“Federal agencies require tailored BPM and BI solutions to solve very complex problems,” said Brian Gentile, CEO of Jaspersoft. “After being commonly disappointed by bloated, inflexible, and costly enterprise software, agencies are now looking to modern open source and integrated solutions from forward-looking vendors who can help solve today’s problems while preparing for those that federal CIOs can anticipate tomorrow.”

“We see the convergence of BPM and BI as a powerful combination that delivers to customers deep insight into organizational trends,” said Caffrey Lee, vice president of research & development, HandySoft. “Then seamless integration of BizFlow and JasperServer transforms process and performance data into the answers managers need to truly optimize operations.”

Because Jaspersoft uses a modern, web-based design and architecture (as a full open source product), NRC is able to customize the underlying metadata to dynamically create tailored reports available to an individual, department or management personnel.

Jaspersoft is an increasingly popular solution for government agencies at the federal, state and local levels. The company works with the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, USDA, the US Navy and many more.
